she was a bird above the sea
her wings spread above horizons and oceans full.
A merman enticed her in with his false love and status
so she dove in, her hair got shorter, her voice weaker, and the man became a shark. he hounded her, obsessed with the scent of her blood
yet she swam with him, until another peacock landed on the rocks above
and the shark watched, his eyes glistening with delight
the little bird stuck in her cage sunk
the piranhas teeth snapped
their white teeth reflecting the blue watering eyes
the oasis beneath the surface
the blue lagoon she swore she would only tip her toes into.
she hid behind the coral cove, yet when she got there, they were waiting, along with the shark and Atlantis.
the bird knew she would drown.
so when the waves took her, and piranhas snapped
the shark gave a wave, took his little birdie into a cave, and watched little fishies surround the skeleton.
her pearls her only remains.
now the little fishies hide in her bones, her skull a heaven to recluse. her sockets a place to peek at the pirañas. her white spheres a reflective state for them to use their fins to swim away.
